Weather Wrap

Every news channel, whether it be CNN, or a local television station, such as: WSFA, or WAKA, has a weather segment, and TROY TrojanVision News is no different. During each 30 minute show there is a news, sports, and weather segment. Each with their own individual ways of production.

Weather is different than most. Where news and sports have scripts, weather is completely ad-libbed, and the weather person must be up to date with the current conditions and future forecasts.

I tend to do weather at least once a week, and when I do I always make sure to watch the local television station that morning to get an idea of what the temperatures for that week are looking like.

We start taping at five o’clock sharp, so I make sure to get down to the station at two so that I have enough time to prepare for the show. Once there, I open up PowerPoint and begin putting my slides together. We get all of our information from multiple online sources and input said information into the slides. Once the slides are finished I get dressed and head on over to the set.

I like to tape 30 second weather before the show begins. 30 second weather is a short segment that details the weather forecast for the next two days. After that is done, I head over to the news desk and wait for the show to begin. I typically have a little while to kill before it is time for weather, so I prepare by looking over my PowerPoint slides.

When it’s time for weather, I have two minutes and 30 seconds to discuss, in detail, the current conditions, and forecast for the next four days. It may seem like a long time, but in reality, time flies when you’re having fun.
